Cam Tjaden’s 5-yard touchdown run gave Saint Elizabeth the lead, and two 4th-quarter turnovers clinched a 17-13 win over Mount Pleasant Saturday night.
Mount Pleasant earned a 13-10 halftime lead behind the arm of Zach Wallen, who tossed a pair of first-half touchdowns, the second of which came in the final minute of the 2nd quarter.
Saint Elizabeth scored first as they drove the field, ending with Casey Rock’s touchdown pass to Herman Jones, and a 33-yard field goal by Brian Millard, but they found themselves in need of a big 2nd half to earn the win.
They’d get all the point they’d need when a shift of field position gave them the football at the Green Knights’ 30-yard line, and Tjaden took advantage with a 5-yard burst through the Mount defense to put the Vikings back in front.
The defense took over from there, as De’Quez Walker’s interception and Thomas Zatalava’s sack and recovery of his forced fumble kept the Green Knights grounded the rest of the way.
Herman Jones sealed the win on the final drive with a 2nd effort, first-down board, and set the Vikings sideline into celebration mode.
Saint Elizabeth is back at Baynard Stadium on Friday night, as they host 0-1 Laurel. Mount Pleasant will open Flight B play at home against 1-0 Dickinson.
