A.I. duPont escaped their season opener against Polytech 28-21 on Friday night.
After an early Tigers touchdown, it all seemed set to be a Polytech blowout.
The Panthers at one point converted a safety and returned the ensuing kick to complete a 9-point half-minute.
A.I. would close out the first half with a 73-yard bullet with 2 seconds left from QB Chad Jones to wide-out LeRoy Lynch to keep pace at 15.
The second half became an exchange of touchdowns and picks.
Jones would again find Lynch for the go-ahead score.
The final blow would be defensive back Jamir Dantley’s second interception of the game with less than a minute to go.
Polytech licks its wounds and hits the road one more time to Indian River next week seeking vengeance.
A.I. DuPont stays home and welcomes the Charter School of Wilmington.
