Sheyenne Allen used a pair of moves to slip away from Caesar Rodney defenders for two second-half goals in Charter of Wilmington’s 3-1 win over the Riders Thursday afternoon.
The teams went to the break tied after goals from Charter’s Nikki Musselman and Caesar Rodney’s Jessie Prillaman.
Three minutes into the second half, Charter took the lead for good as a long pass went onto the foot of Allen, who was able to work around CR’s attacking goaltender, and slide home a shot into the open cage for the 2-1 advantage.
Caesar Rodney would get an excellent chance to equalize again in the 46th minute, but a shot from the edge of the penalty box went straight into the hands of Charter goaltender Lydia McIntyre, who made one of her 5 saves on the afternoon.
As the game approached stoppage time for the goals and two injuries, Allen picked up the insurance marker as she trapped a pass with her back to the goal, spun around a defender, and outran a second to the ball, sliding home a shot from about 6 yards away for her second goal of the game.
Charter outshot Caesar Rodney 16-8 in the contest, including 14-4 after halftime.
Caesar Rodney (6-2) returns to the pitch in two weeks for a conference game with Sussex Tech.
Charter (7-0) will also take a spring break, playing their next game on Monday, April 24 at Newark.
