Caesar Rodney’s Jared Wagenhoffer scored 4 goals to lead a balanced attack with no other hat tricks as the Riders defeated Friends boys lacrosse 12-5 to earn their first trip to the DIAA Championship since 2013.
Friends’ River Harper came out firing, netting a hat trick in the first 12:56 of the contest, the last of which tied the game at 3 early in the second period, but then CR would respond with the game-deciding run.
Wagenhoffer, James Cava, and Demetrius Stevenson scored the final three goals of the half, stretching the lead to 6-3.
Stevenson and Cosden added goals in the first half of the 3rd quarter, that capped off the 5-0 run before Peyton McNeill finally ended the Quakers’ 18-minute droubt, but by that point they were still down by 4.
Wagenhoffer added an assist to Cosden, and then a goal from Stevenson to stretch the lead to 10-4 going into the final frame, and he added his 4th of the game after Noah Longest found the net to finish off the impressive display.
Caesar Rodney advances to face defending champion Salesianum on either Friday or Saturday, depending on the scheduling by the DIAA expected to be announced on Thursday.
Harper scored a hat trick, and McNeill had a goal and an assist for the Quakers, whose hopes of a shocking run as a No. 6 seed came to an end.
