Caravel’s Sasha Marvel scored 12 points with 10 rebounds, as the Bucs overcame a sluggish start to defeat St. Thomas More 58-33 to reach their 4th DIAA Girls Basketball Championship Game in 6 years.

St. Thomas More was able to get a transition game going early, jumping out to a 12-5 lead behind point guard DahNaija Barnes’ 7 first quarter points. They were having success in transition, and took advantage of 5 Caravel turnovers.

The faucet of turnovers would slow for Caravel, and they began to quickly work their way into the game, behind the sharpshooting of Karli Cauley, who hit a trio of three-pointers that put them ahead 20-17, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way.

Sasha Marvel and Terea Hunt hit lay-ups in the final minute to cap an 11-1 finish to the half, that had them in control at 26-18 at the break.

The lead reached double-figures early in the 3rd quarter, and short of a quick burst of lay-ups by Olivia Lynch and Aniah Patterson, Caravel again rushed with an 8-2 stretch, and the rout was on.

Caravel’s half-court defense smothered the Ravens, who struggled just to get good looks after their hot start.

The 29-10 burst in the middle two quarters locked in the victory for Caravel.

Kaylee Otlowski scored 6 points with 10 rebounds, while Kendra Warren’s 14 points, and Cauley’s 10 points proved important, in concert with Terea Hunt’s 9 points off the bench.

Barnes scored 11 points for St. Thomas More, who lost in their first appearance in a state semifinal in school history.
