Caravel’s Jakob Hoffman and Brandon Sengphachanh connected on two touchdown passes and the Bucs used a big first quarter for a 36-15 win over Lake Forest Friday night.

Joey Silan started the scoring as he sacked Lake’s quarterback in the end zone for a safety and 2-0 lead.

After Lake Forest’s free kick, Caravel made it a 9-point play when Jacob Lazink powered home a 7-yard touchdown run to cap off the next drive.

Caravel’s next two posessions also led to points, as Hoffman used play action to freeze the defense and find Sengphachanh streaking down the left sideline for a 46-yard touchdown, and then Josiah Larkins scored a 27-yard touchdown on the final play of the quarter to stretch the lead to 22-0 after 12 minutes.

The scoring run made it to four straight drives, as Hoffman and Sengphachanh made their second connection of the game, this time on an arcing pass over the middle of the field, to bring the game to 29-0 at halftime.

Caravel’s Ethan Potter brought the running clock into play as his 22-yard run set up a 4-yard touchdown.

Lake quarterback Shyron Salandy was able to salvage a pair of fourth quarter touchdown runs, including one of 42 yards, but it wasn’t enough to save the Spartans on this night.

Caravel (2-2) will prepare for a challenging Homecoming contest with Archmere next Friday.

Lake Forest (1-3) also celebrates Homecoming next Saturday at noon against Indian River.
