On a muggy morning in New Castle, DE Post 1 overcame a 5-run deficit to win the DE American Legion State Championship 10-9 over Delaware Post 10.

DE Post 1 would get on the board first, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning with both Brian Gilardi and Oliver Campbell crossing the plate.

In the bottom of the 2nd, DE Post would get one back thanks to an RBI single by Vince Pasquarella.

In the top of the fourth, DE Post 10 would plate three giving them a 4-2 advantage.

In the top of the fifth, DE Post 10 would push the lead to 7-2 as the first three batters all came around to score.

DE Post 1 would come all the way back in the bottom of the fifth scoring five times, tying the game at 7 before an out was recorded.

In the sixth, DE Post 10 would tack on two more as they would go back up 9-7.

However, in the bottom of the sixth, DE Post 1 would have 5 of their first six batters single as Brian Gilardi, Oliver Campbell and Mike Serafin scored giving them a 10-9 advantage.

DE Post 1 would hang on to claim their first American Legion Title since 2000.

DE Post 1’s Oliver Campbell went 4 for 5 on the day, with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. He was declared the Tournament MVP.

DE Post 1 will next move on to the Mid-Atlantic Regional beginning Wednesday in Purcellville, VA.
