Eighth seeded Delmar hit the road again and took on A.I. DuPont where they came away with a 56-21 victory at Tigers Stadium and a bid to the DIAA Division II title game next week at the University of Delaware.
It was a contested game through the first 24 minutes of play and from there it was all Wildcats.
The main story of the night, Delmar junior running back Te’Shawn Dennard found the endzone on the ground for all eight Wildcat touchdowns.
A heavy dose of ground and pound complimented a Delmar defense that took the ball away from Chad Jones and the Tigers on four separate occasions.
While A.I. had a takeaway of their own, their front seven couldn’t contain Brooks Parker, who took most of the punishment while breaking tackles left and right while setting up Dennard for his recordbreaking performance.
“He (Parker) allowed me to get to the endzone and getting to the endzone allowed us to win the game tonight,” said Dennard after the game. “Sometimes we alternate. Sometimes he gets all the touchdowns, sometimes i get all the touchdowns. It’s just a brotherly love with him.”
Convincing wins against a top seeded DMA and now second seed A.I. DuPont means that the winner of Friends and Milford is going to have one smashmouth game on their hands for the division II title game.
This Wildcat team is riding a 10-game winning streak heading into the championship game and are beyond confident that they can take care of business next week in Newark.
