Welcome in to Delawaresportszone.com’s High School Plays of the Year for the 2017/18 season.

It’s been a stellar year with school firsts, multiple returning champs, and a whole lot of highlights.

Rules to this one are simple, got the best of the best from the Fall, Winter and Spring.

20 – Hodgson starts off the list with this game winning touchdown from Vaughn Wood putting DMA out late at home.

19 – Sussex Tech’s Jaquan Burton gonna get the steal in the Gymnasianum and throw it back nice and classy on the layup.

18 – Conrad in the big game at the Bob. Krulesza goes up but misses, Alyssa Faville puts it up and secures the Red Wolves first title in girls basketball.

17 – Another Championship game down in Newark with Delmar’s Carson Phillips getting the toss from VonArx and style points for the nod to the cameraman on the way to the big W.

16 – Caravel’s Jamison Young will get the feed from X and Jame-o will put on the stick show in front of the crease for the goal.

15 – More Delmar at U-D. Jordan Moore gets the feed and lifts this one stick side high in the championship bout with Tower Hill.

14 – Caesar Rodney’s lacrosse getting tricky, Noah Longest and Demetrious Stevenson with the fake out. By the time Appo knows what’s going on it’s not one, but too late.

13 – Appo on the right end of this one– girls softball making a historic run to the finals and nails this 4-6-3 double play helping to knock out autumn boothe and the Wildcats down in Middletown.

12 – Padua had Ursuline’s number all season but when it counted, Taylor Wright puts the nail in the panda’s coffin and the Red Raiders net their only win over the black and gold when the hardware is on the line.

11 – Salesianum’s Jack Brown thinks he’s getting one over on Sanford but Sean Williams has other plans, airborne and stuffs this one into the back stands.

Half way point and CR’s Jacob Stant putting on a goalkeeping clinic in Claymont, one save and the next one comes from out of No-where.

9 – St. Mark’s Hockey with a righteous season, this coming against one of the best goalies in the state. Kelly Stroik finds William Ralsten who will find the only square inch of available space for the goal in a blowout of the seahawks.

8 – Sallies en route to another soccer title. Ben Strine finds the dome piece of Jason Dauerty and that ball finds the twine.

7 – Sanford’s Jyare Davis uses Veasley-Johnson’s back for the self inbound and goes straight up. Trickey Trickey.

6 – Unified flag football and the catch that Mount Pleasant’s Malik Purnell makes puts Franco Harris’ immaculate reception to shame.

5 – DMA’s caught some flak on this list but Alyssa Ruggeri puts it all on the line with the feed and the goal on the way to DMA’s first soccer title.

4 – Smyrna’s Joe Alchokachy busts up his leg something awful and manages to wrestle two whole periods AND get the victory helping the eagles secure hardware for the Henlopen North Conference.

Big 3 – Archmere lacrosse with a pinch of basics compliments of Sean Kelly and some finesse off the stick of Nolan Collins. Auks with an impressive run this season.

Runner up – CR with a monster year all around but Kylie Kornegay Lucas pulling out the mon-STAR crossover and drains it from the paint. Ooh La La.

2018 play of the year belongs to Glasgow’s Reggie Grennell. Indian River flubs the snap and punter’s gonna run but Reggie gone get him and make it look like he laced homeboy’s spikes with C4. If it’s good enough for sportscenter, you know we’re giving you our best.

Thanks for tuning in all year. To all of the High school Athletes in Delaware– If you’re a senior, god speed and represent. If you’re returning, We’ll catch you on the sidelines.

Honorable mentions go to Dover’s Derrick Madison with a big hit at St. Georges on the gridiron, Padua’s Sarah Kunkle for giving Archmere the spin doctor treatment in girls Lacrosse, Dover’s Joseph Gray for his steal of home against Salesianum in the DIAA tournament, Newark’s Luke Marcheski making a big slide at Frawley Stadium, Archmere’s Jacob DiBattista’s barely-look goal against DMA, Sanford’s Nnanna Njoku who was a beast above the rim blocking and dunking all season and Charter’s Frederick Durham for his two punt return touchdowns versus First State Military and Tower Hill’s Isabelle Pilson for her big left-footed goal versus Caravel.
