Caravel’s Tyler Juhl forced extra-innings with a 2-run home run, then delivered the game-winning RBI in a 12-inning, 6-5 win over Sussex Central Tuesday night.
Juhl came to bat with two outs in the bottom of the 7th, when he crushed a drive over the wall to tie the game at 5, forcing extra innings.
Sussex Central’s Trevor Collins and Caravel’s Wyatt Nelson then engaged in a pitching duel, keeping both teams off the board as the innings went into double-figures, and the clock approached 11pm.

At 10:49pm, Juhl came up with a runner on second, and the right-hander served a single to the opposite field, giving Nelson more than enough time to score the winning running standing up.
It ended a 3:49 game that featured 30 strikeouts.
Juhl went 4-for-5, finishing just a double short of the cycle. He drove in 4 runs, while scoring twice.
Central trailed 3-1 in the 5th when Trevor Collins’ bases-loaded double gave the Golden Knights the 4-3 lead. They’d add another run in the 6th, before Juhl’s blast started the late night.
The loss stopped Sussex Central’s 6-game winning streak. The Golden Knights are now 9-8, and will likely need to beat Seaford and hope it is enough to get them into next week’s DIAA Baseball Tournament.
Caravel (12-3) will take their depleted pitching staff into a challenging schedule. They host Riverdale Baptist (Maryland) on Thursday, play at Newark Charter on Sunday, and then host Episcopal Academy on Monday.
