Milford wrestling used a late rally to claim a 4th straight DIAA Division II Dual Meet Championship in Smyrna Tuesday evening.
Milford trailed 30-15 with four matches remaining after Indian River rolled off four straight victories between 120 and 132.
The Indians’ run was jump-started by Ta’Jon Knight’s first period pin at 120, and included a tech fall by Jared Arlett at 138, Dylan Ely’s major decision at 126, and Jessie Oneal’s OT win at 132.
Gavin Garcia turned the momentum with a 17-7 major decision at 145, which was followed by Alex Creasey’s pin at 152.
Ultimately, the match came down to a tight battle between Milford’s Khiry Hovington and Indian River’s Arturo Salas at 160. Hovington was able to collect a 7-5 decision, and those 3 points would swing the final outcome.
Kaje Reynolds ended the suspense with a dominating 2nd period pin at 170, setting off a celebration that earned Milford two penalty points, but couldn’t spoil the 4th straight championship.
Milford’s Bryon Wynes (285) and Indian River’s Will Rayne (106) also picked up pins in the tight contest between Henlopen South rivals.
