Milford wrestling continued its dynasty, claiming a 5th-straight DIAA Division II Wrestling Championship with a 38-29 win over No. 1 seed Laurel.
The crown jewel in the match a Khiry Hovington major decision to put the title in the bag.
Laurel gave up a technical fall before rattling off a pin and a decision to go up 9-5, but the rest was pure grit from the Buccaneers.
Seven total pins in the match and four of those belonged to Laurel but cooler heads prevailed.
Seniors like Oscar Rosario Mejia have completed what the class ahead of them did, a clean sweep.
“My team never gave up,” said Rosario. “We just kept plugging away and we earned this title.”
Buccaneer head coach Don Parsley has been with Milford for three of the five titles but took this one to heart.
“I know this is five overall and four for some of these guys,” said Parsley. “This one is just different. Everything from Diaz’s win over Handy to Khiry closing it out.”
