Conrad’s Logan Muller smacked 20 kills to lead the Red Wolves past A.I. duPont in straight sets and into Wednesday’s boys volleyball state championship game.
Muller came out swinging, recording 3 spikes as part of a 7-1 start in the opening set. The Red Wolves maintained the lead, as Emilio Bernal ended the 25-14 set with an ace.
A.I. duPont fought back gamely in the second set, using Aumar Harrigan’s four-point serving run, including an ace, to jump ahead 5-3.
Conrad responded with a 9-3 burst, including a brilliant, one-hand block from John Hoopes after the apex of his jump, to seize control of the set. Another one of Muller’s right-handed missile-kills found the hardwood floor to end the stanza 25-15, giving Conrad the 2-0 lead.
After A.I. won the first point, Conrad quickly took control, leading from 3-2 onwards, collecting the 25-17 victory, and earning a date with No. 1 Salesianum in Wednesday’s championship match.
Muller added 7 aces and 9 digs to his 20 kills, while Mark Grunza collected 8 blocks.
A.I. was led by James Mulligan’s 7 kills. They will face Charter School of Wilmington on a consolation match at 5pm at St. Mark’s on Wednesday. Salesianum vs. Conrad will follow for the title.
