Padua’s Amanda Berry scored six goals with three assists as the Pandas defeated 21-9 in the first-ever DIAA Girls Lacrosse Tournament game for both programs on Thursday.
Padua continued their 4th season in program history by going on a 6-0 run after Appoquinimink’s Taylor Lambeth opened the scoring with a free position goal.
The run was a showcase for Grace DiGiovanni and Berry. DiGiovanni scored three goals, while Berry picked up two goals and an assist. After Rachel Delate’s goal, Padua had a 6-1 lead with 13:18 to go in the opening half.
Appoquinimink’s Kristin Cunningham scored three goals the rest of the way in the first half, but free position goals by Cecilla Krienen and Berry in the final 90 seconds of the half gave the Pandas a 12-4 halftime lead.
The second half saw the teams trade goals, before the Pandas scored the final four goals of the game in the last 12:30 of the contest to lock up the victory. The final goal came at the buzzer by Jordan Bramble, giving the sophomore 100 career goals.
Goaltender Elizabeth Hennessy anchored a solid defensive performance, while Appo’s Lauryn Hylton gave the Pandas fits, despite the large goal total.
Padua advances to face No. 1 seed Archmere Saturday at 11am at Archmere. Archmere won a 19-11 decision back on May 3.
