No. 2 (D1) Polytech edged No. 2 (D2) Milford 1-0 in a tight field hockey battle in Woodside Tuesday afternoon.
Polytech controlled possession throughout the first half, but thanks to an excellent kick-save by Milford’s Leah Barnett, a 4-2 shots advantage meant nothing on a scoreless scoreline.
Madi McKay changed that 10 minutes into the second half, as she took a midfield cross from Kayla LaVere, and raced towards the right edge of the penalty circle.
She slipped a low shot that snuck past the goalie’s leg, and just banged into the side of the far post and in for the game’s opening marker.

Polytech was able keep possession in their offensive end most of the rest of the way, although Milford did get one chance at an attack at the final minute, but could not get a shot on frame.
Holly Rembold stopped the only shot on goal by Milford to earn the shutout, while Leah Barnett made 7 saves for Milford. Polytech won the penalty corner battle 13-1.
Polytech (1-0) returns to action Thursday against Sussex Tech, while Milford (1-1) looks to bounce back at home against Dover, who ended Cape Henlopen’s regular-season winning streak dating back to 2008, also on Thursday.
