It took 9 periods, but Salesianum came away with a 57-54 win in 5 Overtimes at St. Marks on Friday night.
Salesianum would start the game quick and take a 7-0 lead before St. Marks called a timeout with 4:44 left in the first quarter.
St. Marks would hit a couple baskets after the timeout but still trail by 6 after one.
In the second quarter, St. Marks would outscore Salesianum 9-5 and pull within 2 at the half.
Salesianum would maintain their lead as we worked our way through the second half, until St. Marks tied the game at 29 with just over 2 minutes left.
We’d go to overtime number one tied at 31.
St. Marks Nick Leski would hit a basket and get fouled to start the first overtime. He’d hit the free throw and St. Marks would be up 3.
The lead would climb to 4 when Michael Williams hit a Free Throw with 2 minutes left in the first OT.
Salesianum would tie the game with four straight points at 36. We would go to Overtime #2 tied at 38.
Both teams would hit two’s followed by three’s and we’d go to Overtime #3 tied at 43.
Salesianum would take a 2 point lead late in the third overtime thanks to a basket by Darnell Vaughan. But St. Marks would tie the game again as Eric Ludman powered his way to the basket sending the game to Overtime #4.
St. Marks would hit 3 free throws in the fourth overtime giving them a 3 point lead. But, Salesianum’s Jack Brown would tie the game hitting a three with time running out sending the game to Overtime #5.
In the fifth overtime, Salesianum’s Paul Brown hit a three giving them the lead. Then, St. Marks Nick Leski hit a three tying the game.
With time running out, Salesianum’s Jack Brown would hit the game winner from behind the arc. A last ditch attempt by St. Marks would come up short and Salesianum would survive the first five overtime game in Delaware High School basketball this season.
