Archmere’s Mady McDougal and Caravel’s Karli Cauley combined for 12 saves as their teams played to a 0-0 field hockey draw Thursday afternoon.
Caravel controlled a good chunk of the second half, receiving a series of penalty corners, but on their best chance, a shot that got past McDougal was stopped by the blade of defender Meghan Reilly at the goal line, keeping the hopes for the shutout alive.
Another chance came with 20 minutes to go when Sydney Keld was awarded a penalty stroke for Caravel, but McDougal was able to widen her field hockey stick and deflect the shot straight up into the air, again holding the game scoreless.
Five minutes later, Archmere took their best opportunity, but two players in front of the net couldn’t get it past Cauley, who pushed it off of one of their feet to deaden the chance.
After playing 60 minutes of scoreless regulation, the 15-minute, 7-on-7 overtime period featured plenty of end-to-end action, but neither team was able to get the desired goal, and the teams ultimately had to settle for the draw.
McDougal was credited with 9 saves in the game, while Cauley stopped 3 Archmere shots. Caravel had a 14-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Archmere (4-2-1) continues their 4-game homestand with a battle agaisnt Sanford Tuesday at 4pm.
Caravel (5-0-2) played their second straight draw, and will host Tatnall Tuesday at 6pm.
